Did you know about navigating around kickfly?

Wednesday, July 8th, 2009

This is a tip for our users - a little thing we just implemented!

As you know, you can use the arrow keys on your keyboard to navigate around your scene.

But, did you know that if you hold the SHIFT key down, and press the arrow keys, you’ll change the way you move!

In particular:

- By pressing SHIFT and the up arrow, the camera appears to look upward.

- By pressing SHIFT and the down arrow, the camera appears to look downward.

-  By pressing SHIFT and the right arrow, the camera will pan to the right.

-  By pressing SHIFT and the left arrow, the camera will pan to the left.

Try it on one of the many favorite scenes that you might find at kickfly.com/explore/  !

What’s coming next at kickfly?

Thursday, July 2nd, 2009

June was a nice month for us.

Everybody, a lot of new stuff is coming out from kickfly. We’ll have the small updates (maintenance, bug fixes, etc.) and then things like more themes (your suggestions please!) and finally, more features that you’re asking for.

Simply put, kickfly 2.0 is coming.. (or maybe more like 1.1 : )

We read every single email that comes in, and it takes some time to figure out priorities, but we *will* get to everything.

Thanks for visiting. Please send your feedback to us (to info@kickfly.com, in case you’re wondering)!

We’re posting updates to the site.

One of my favorite updates is that our Explore page now lets you view scenes created by users from more than the last two days.

So, for example, check out:

Something I wanted to add: We are working on the next release. We’re fixing bugs, and cleaning/speeding things up. Your comments will be very helpful to us! Add them to this blog, join our forum (forum.kickfly.com), or email it to us at info@kickfly.com.

We also know that the view counter on the Explore page (www.kickfly.com/explore/) is down; hold on and we’ll get it back up.

Update - post conference

Friday, September 26th, 2008

Hi everyone. It’s been a busy week - we had a good reception at the web 2.0. We were pleased at our very first public ‘test’. We certainly learned a lot and we’re going to apply what we learned to the next release - addressing the biggest issues that we observed. We think it will make for a better application once we’ve finished our updates in a couple of weeks.

Along the way ran into some old friends… Elliott at Uptake, Albert at Union Square Ventures, Matt Thomas at I-forgot-what-name-your-company-is (but always nice to see you), and had a insightful conversation with a very smart guy named David from his firm (VisionVP) - to just name a few interactions.

People have asked us when we’re going to launch. This test period is going to have to last a while longer. So the answer is, later this fall. Still plenty more kinks to work out so we’re happy with any feedback you have.

Thanks again.

Tuesday, September 16th, 2008

Hi everybody,

We’re at Booth #6, showing off our new beta version. Tomorrow and Thursday, September 17 and 18.

This is really our first public beta, a demo of some of what we’re capable of doing. Still a lot of little usability issues that need to be fixed, and that we’re aware of. But, we’re going to show what we have right now, learn from it, and hopefully get better. Sign up when you get a chance or link to us!

This is a soft launch, at best… certainly not a ‘launch’ in any traditional sense of the word.. It’s more for us than it is for the press - a way to kick the tires and see where we are.. We appreciate all your feedback.
Anyway, stop by if you are in town. We’d love to see you.

Thoughts on Xobni.

Thursday, May 8th, 2008

We were reading Xobni’s great article about how they started off with a different idea, and converged to an idea that seems to be getting traction.

Here’s the article:

http://gigaom.com/2008/05/11/xobni-our-path-from-wrong-product-to-killer-app/

What’s most interesting is the negative commentary by the peanut gallery at the end of the article. C’mon- it’s hard and a lot of work to build something compelling. Give the Xobni guys a break.
